Hi, I’m Brett Godfrey, co-founder and CEO of Virgin Blue.

As you can all imagine Virgin Blue is close to my heart, having seen it grow from a concept sketched on the back of a beer coaster to a multi-award winning International airline group employing more than 4,200 team members across Australia and New Zealand.

When we launched Virgin Blue we had to think and act differently.  We didn't want to reproduce ‘Airline 101’, so we took people who were un-airline like.  We recruited for attitude, not experience, as a general rule.  So consequently - we were going to be spectacular in either success or failure.  But today it’s obvious we’ve earned our wings, bringing low fares to travellers and changing the future of the aviation industry in Australia forever.

People often ask me the secret of our success and without hesitation I tell them it’s the individuals that make up our team.  We don't always get it right, but that is our objective and to date we've been pretty good at it.  Our team members have stepped up to not only put in a lot of hard yards, but to be a part of something which I think is unique and exciting.

I don’t know of too many other companies where it’s ‘normal’ to experience the kind of growth Virgin Blue has in the last seven years.  Where we have grown from just 2 aeroplanes flying between Sydney and Brisbane to more than 50 flying throughout Australia and across to New Zealand and into the South Pacific….but that’s the exciting part about working for Virgin Blue and I can assure you it’s not going to stop here.

As an airline group we have many more dynamic plans in the pipeline and we’re always looking for the best people in all specialities and fields to join our family to help us achieve our goals and play an integral part in the future of our company and the Australian aviation industry.

The current labour market is a tough one - we know it - but we also know from experience that we have retained a competitive edge as an 'employer of choice', because not only do we offer competitive pay and incentive programs, we also offer a unique culture that is so very Virgin.

We work hard, we stay focussed on our business goals but, most importantly, we try and have fun doing it.  We can’t deny that working at Virgin Blue can be a little like riding a Roller-coaster sometimes, but the bottom line is ‘who we are’, and ‘what we stand for’.  Our core values of safety, innovation, quality, challenge and fun is still what drives us and keeps us focussed.
